Our TCD students, Filippo Carminati, Rachel McCaffery, Taylor Tulissi and Pablo Weber presented their final research project this morning ‘Bosting Youth Engagement in Sustainable Food Systems’ for assessment. This report examines strategies to increase youth engagement in sustainable food systems, focusing on young adults (18–25 years) in Dublin, Ireland. While youth hold significant potential to drive change in food systems, their involvement remains limited due to barriers such as food illiteracy, lack of access to local food initiatives, and urbanization. Through research based on transformative learning theory and systems thinking, this study explores the impact of local food initiatives, nontraditional learning methods, gamified learning strategies, and social media influencers on youth perceptions and behaviours related to food systems. It provides actionable recommendations for stakeholders aiming to enhance youth participation in sustainable food practices. The team would like to thank Airfield Estate, particularly Aoibhín Moore Heslin, PhD and Dr. Paul O’Keeffe for their guidance during the process. Read the information guide here
