DGS Paper – Food as Learning at Airfield Estate

At Airfield Estate, our mission is to inspire and enable informed food choices, with an ambition to become a sustainable food hub in a world-leading sustainable food city. Central to this ambition is the legacy of the Overend family, whose pioneering use of food as a means of learning, philanthropy, connection, and activism continues to shape our purpose. Our recent paper, “Food as Learning at Airfield Estate – Living the Legacy,” dives into this legacy of food as learning and how we’re transforming their historic gift into a modern hub for food education and sustainability. In this paper, we discuss how we use food as a way of learning about the world, a tool for change, a conduit for the school curriculum, a window into the past, and a means of fostering knowledge transfer and connections amongst communities. Read here to find out more about how we are using our historical archives and modern-day research and education programs to learn about and connect the past, present, and future through food.
