Airfield Estate Awarded the Sandford Award
-
We are very proud to announce that Airfield Estate has been awarded the prestigious Sandford Award. The Sandford Award is the quality mark for heritage learning and validation for heritage sites and services that offer a formal learning programme that supports the relevant curriculum across the home countries.
Airfield is proud to be one of only eight organisations in Ireland to hold this award which recognises the highest quality in heritage and education. At Airfield Estate our work is inspired by our legacy and the work of the Overend sisters. For this reason, the link between education and heritage is key for us.Our heritage is the foundation which all our work builds on and a huge amount has been built in recent years. We are now an accredited research institution and have a research team working on a range of projects focused on farming, nutrition and the future of food production.
Our education team are working year-round to provide educational experience to over 10,000 learners (primary, secondary and third level students). From students passing through our Pre-School, Primary, and Secondary school visits, our Secondary Ecology and Agricultural Science field courses, our tours and workshops for third level and corporate groups, and our public workshops, we aim to educate all our visitors on how to eat, produce food, and garden in ways that are most sustainable for ourselves and our planet. We are very proud to hold the Sandford Award to highlight the work we do to combine our heritage and education.
